Gates are Update 1’s Solo Leveling-style portals in Solo City: wave defense through normal mobs and mini-bosses up to a boss tier the official Trello calls the Arise Boss — defeat it and the Arise System lets you extract it as a shadow (community testing reports roughly one boss every 10 waves with 3 Arise attempts, and an Auto-Arise toggle that was buggy at launch).
Gates are currently the only source of Hunter Tokens, the Tusk Neck Skull accessory (drop rates above are from the Trello card), and Range progress — and difficulty does not change shadow quality, so speed beats ambition. Gate ranks beyond E (D, C, B…) exist per community streams, but the full rank ladder and any rank-specific rewards are not documented anywhere we track. Full system breakdown in our Update 1 guide.

Community reports conflict between every 7 minutes and every 10 minutes. Treat the timer as approximate and verify in-game.
Does gate difficulty affect shadow quality?
No, per community testing — an E-rank gate can reportedly still drop an S-rank shadow, so farm whatever rank you clear fastest.
